Racism and (In)Gratitude


Despite forming 65% of Free French Forces and dying in large numbers for France, Senegalese soldiers were excluded from the French army division that led the liberation of Paris on 25 August 1944. The Allied High Command insisted that all black soldiers be taken out and replaced by white ones from other units.
